Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a heart-wrenching incident of violence against animals. Panchayat members of Lingapalam village in West Godavari district killed about 300 dogs by injecting them with poison. All the dogs were then buried in a pit near the village lake.

The whole incident came to light when animal rights activist Challapalli Srilata lodged a complaint at the police station on July 29. Following their complaint, the police have registered a case against the village panchayat secretary and sarpanch under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Fight for Animals activist Srilata said she visited the village and saw some dog carcasses rotting near the lake. Inquiries from the villagers revealed that the act was carried out on the orders of the panchayat.
